Swapo Party secretary-general Sophia Shaningwa said men outnumber women in the party’s top positions and that the women’s council should identify, nurture and mentor talented young women into leadership.
Shaningwa said this when she officially opened the Central Committee meeting at Swakopmund on Sunday.
Women have outnumbered men in all considerations.
“The SPWC should, therefore, have more members than any other wing or affiliate to the Swapo Party. The new leadership of the SPWC should ensure that recruitment of new members becomes a priority and intensified,” she said.
Shaningwa said bringing on board young women enables the SPWC to have a remarkable continuation.
She said that members of the SPWC Central Committee must live up to the constitutional mandate.
She challenged the members to seek to align the activities of the SPWC to the ideological pursuit and the understanding of the Swapo Party’s ideology, policies and political programmes.
This, Shaningwa said, will enable the women to defend the Swapo Party and its legacy.
“The mothers are naturally caring and dutiful. Therefore, SPWC must lead in this regard. Be champions of the service delivery and servants of humanity,” Shaningwa urged.
She further said that women of the 21st century should be part of the discourse and must influence all policies that impact society.
“Thus, SPWC should lead the way,” she said, adding that when women are united, the Swapo Party shall be and the nation at large.
