ANOTHER SUSPECT IN THE N$1.3 MILLION BLACK CHAIN HEIST ARRESTED

Khomas police have arrested another suspect in Windhoek in connection with the robbery of N$1.3 million at the Nedbank branch at Black Chain shopping mall in Katutura on 2 February.

The suspect was arrested while in possession of N$ 31,800.

Khomsdal Regional commander Ismael Basson confirmed that two suspects have been arrested so far. According to the regional commander, there were four or five suspects involved.

The police also recovered two cars. One of the vehicles was stolen during the process of the crime, while the suspects used the other to get away from the scene. A 7.6mm pistol was also recovered.

The regional commander said that the suspects are expected to appear in court on 13 April 2022. He stated that all the accused are in custody with no bail.

The first suspect was arrested in Omusati region. He was found with stolen money.

The two suspects were arrested on the count of robbing a Southern Cross Security Campany cash-in-transit vehicle of N$1.3 million three weeks ago.

The robbery took place at Nedbank’s Black chain shopping mall branch in Katutura. Police are searching for more suspects on the matter.

According to the police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi, a 36-year-old security guard and his colleague were transporting money from the Nedbank business centre in Ausspannplaz, drooped some of it at the Nedbank branch at Avani Hotel in Independence Avenue, and then proceeded to Nedbank’s Black Chain branch.
