WE HAVE HIT ROCK-BOTTOM- KATJIRUA

With Windhoek effectively under lockdown and Covid-19 cases spiralling out of control exerting pressure on health services, the Khomas regional governor, McLeoid Katjirua, has said this afternoon, “we have hit rock-bottom”.
The governor has pleaded for private sector assistance for the provision of oxygen, adding that bodies continue to pile up at the mortuary, unclaimed.
The region has recorded the highest figure of 800 in Covid cases in a single day and limps on with 25 648 confirmed cases.
Of these 5 543 are active with the testing positivity yield at 38%.
“That is quite high,” she told journalists this afternoon.
She has also said the absence of finances has scuttled efforts to convert Ramatex into an isolation and treatment centre, without getting much into detail.
All in all, the region has 463 active cases, with 908 people in home isolation, and more than 135 in government isolation facilities.
So far, 38 624 have been vaccinated in the region with the first and second doses.
But the governor is hopeful.
“We had brought down Covid-19 cases before in Khomas region and there is no doubt we can do this again,” she expressed.
She has endorsed her fullest support of the lockdown and called on law enforcement to act on those that flout regulations.
She has also said that the health minister is expected to brief the nation at 19h00 today.
