Joel Joel (41) from Okadiva village appeared in Ondangwa magistrate court on Tuesday before Magistrate Gabriella Peresterelo for allegedly raping his niece.
The incident occurred at Okadiva village, Okankolo area in the Oshikoto Region on Sunday 19 December.
According to Oshikoto Regional police Commander Commissioner ArmasShivute, the incident happened at about 19h00
“It’s alleged that the suspect forced the victim to have sexual intercourse by assaulting her with open hands. He threatened her not to tell anyone after they were left alone after their grandparents went to cuca shops,” Shivute said.
Commissioner Shivute further said the victim managed to inform her grandfather, who told the police, and he was arrested.
“The suspect is the victim’s uncle and stays in the same house,” Shivute said.
Joel was remanded in custody, and the case has been postponed until 09 May 2022 for further investigations and for the accused person to apply for Legal Aid.
