Opposition political parties have hit back at the Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga’s stern warning that he would run over and take control of the City of Windhoek.
Ndeitunga vented out against councillors at the city for causing the chaos that rocked Otjomuise after illegal land grabbing resulted in running battles with the police.
The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) leader, Bernadus Swartbooi, has said Ndeitunga must shut up.
“Shut up and resolve the challenges of police’s homelessness. They live in police barracks. They live without their wives. They are separated from their families.”
“They are emotionally haunted by the corruption in the police force and what happened to the college construction money Ndeitunga? Answer those questions and stay in your lane. You are an enforcement officer of the law only on instruction.”
“Don’t become am entertainer here. Don’t come and try to be brave here. You’re not brave. Keep quiet Sebastian,” he said.
The Popular Democratic Movement’s (PDM) Secretary General Manuel Ngaringombe has described the utterances as unfortunate and tantamount to a coup.
The PDM has said it has since written to the ministry of Home Affairs to explain its position with regards what Ndeitunga said.
“The sentiments by the Inspector General are deeply concerning, and the minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security must come out and clarify the nature of these unfortunate comments by Mr. Ndeitunga.’
“Namibia is certainly not a police state, and the coercive apparatus must never delve into the political arena,” he said.
