Oshana region is one of the regions with a high rate of GBV that usually results in deaths.
Governor Elia Irimari said GBV was a significant concern in the region. Irimari said this when he delivered his state of the region address mid this year.
The governor said women and girls continued to live in fear in the Oshana region.
The region recorded 150 GBV cases from January to May this year and about 28 cases of rape.
“This is very disappointing to our nation. We should not tolerate any form of violence against women and children in an independent country,” Irimari said.
In 2019, the police said the Oshana region was second in GBV cases after Khomas.
The Oshana region had 569 GBV cases while Khomas had 2 531, Ohangwena (533), Hardap (502) and Omusati (336).
