A MILESTONE ACHIEVEMENT FOR FEMALE LAWYERS

Namibia’s female lawyers have attained a milestone achievement via the recognition by the Judicial Service Commission of the Namibia Women’s Lawyers Association (NWLA) as a designated organization. .

Speaking to Eagle FM, the association’s chairperson, Ruth Herunga, said, “Today’s women have enormous potential when offered a seat at the table and being recognized by the JSC means fast tracking more Namibian female lawyers to serve on the bench and in other high profile appointments.

“Women lawyers who are members of our Association will now have the opportunity to be nominated to occupy those positions. The ultimate goal is to achieve equal representation of female judges in both the High and Supreme Court.”

First Lady of the Namibia, Monica Geingos, also said she felt a deep kinship to the NWLA “as a law graduate and as a professional woman” adding that the initiative around the association had been long overdue.

She said this “will play a key role in facilitating and fast tracking more Namibian female professionals to take their rightful place at the decision making table”.
