Woman arraigned on birth concealment charges

A case of birth concealment and murder was opened against a 21-year-old woman in the Omusati region.
It is alleged that the suspect gave birth to a baby and thereafter murdered it with an unknown object.
The incident occurred at the Etunda village in the Okahao constituency.
Preliminary investigations disclosed that the suspect is living in their house together with the mother, a 13-year-old brother and the suspect’s one-year-old daughter.
According to Commissioner Titus Shikongo, the police regional commander for the Omusati Region, the suspect buried the remains of the baby in a shallow grave in the bushes close to their homestead.
The discovery was made by two minors on Saturday – one of them a brother to the suspect, who was attracted to the scene by dogs’ noises that were devouring on the remains.
Shikongo said that only a decomposed head and left arm were found.
The suspect was arrested and is due to appear in court. The remains were taken to Okahao police mortuary for postmortem.
