Shipping company MD appears in court over N$7,5m chickens

Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court granted Luther Mostert, the managing director of Walvis Bay Ship Chandlers, N$140 000 bail when he appeared on charges of tax evasion and fraud on Friday.
As part of the bail conditions, Mostert was ordered to surrender his travel documents and not to leave Walvis Bay until the case returns to court on 28 October 2020.
Mostert (39) allegedly forged documents regarding chickens which his company allegedly imported from Brazil. The value of the chickens is N$7,5m.
According to court documents, Mostert claimed that the chickens were being imported from South Africa to avoid paying duty.
Furthermore, Mostert is said to have diverted the chickens for sale on the Namibian market
