Namibia to abide by SADC protocols on Zimbabwe

International relation ministry said that they will abide by SADC’s position with regards to the current situation in Zimbabwe.
In a statement issued and signed by the ministry’s acting executive secretary, Rebecca Iyambo, the ministry’s position is that Namibia respects the established SADC institutions, including the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Co-operation, which is mandated with the authority to make decisions and make recommendations to the SADC Summit on matters pertaining to peace and security in the region.

Iyambo further stated that the ministry received enquiries from several local media and some members of the public requesting the reaction of the Government of the Republic of Namibia on the security situation in the Republic of Zimbabwe.
“Within SADC we have mechanisms in place established to deal with issues affecting members states in between Summits, such as regional integration, economic development, and peace and security among others,” the acting executive wrote.

International relations minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said that the government of Namibia will have a position on the current situation in Zimbabwe, by the end of the day today.
Nandi-Ndaitwah told EagleFM this morning that her ministry will issue a statement on Namibia’s position on what has been happening in Zimbabwe for the past weeks.
There have been several reports on police brutality, violence against protesters in the country.
The protesters took to the streets to demonstrate against the current administration and the economic struggles the country is facing.
