Demonstrators in Kavango regions have given President Hage Geingob 15 days to dismiss Kavango East governor Bonifatius Wakudumo.
The demand was one of many made by the residents of Kavango East who demonstrated in Rundu against the appointment of the Chinese businessman Charlie Min Xie as a special advisor to governor Bonifatius Wakudumo.
The petition was received by the Kavango East chairperson of the management committee Daniel Mahamba at the regional council offices in Rundu.
The residents said that the appointment of Xie has serious implications, was unlawful, unpatriotic and was not done in the best interest of the country.
They also said Wakudumo does have the power to appoint advisors and that only the president has the prerogative.
Although Xie’s appointment was revoked on Monday, the demonstrators said it was reckless unlawful and must be revoked with immediate effect.
According to the demonstrators, Wakudumo proved that he is not fit for office and it is vividly clear that he has no clue about the legal framework pertaining to his work and does not know the region.
They accused Wakudumo of being an agent of imperialists and a sell-out who has been terrorising fellow Namibians by calling them names like Angolans and Nyembas.
Furthermore, they said Wakudumo was terrorising street vendors.
“His appointment with Charlie shows that he is already in bed with the enemy. His assessment to appoint a Chinese business as an advisor is a complete insult of Kavangos.
“He clearly undermined capable people in the region and country as a whole. Having him in office a serious liability to President Hage Geingob; having him in office, he will continue bringing problems to the government because he is counterproductive.
“His terrible decision making has proven that he is unfit for office and should be dismissed with immediate effect.
“Our ultimate demand is the dismissal of Wakudumo within 15 days of working days,” then petition said.
They said they had identified names of potential candidates for governor such as Petrus Kavula, Pontianus Musore, Sarafina Kandere and Daniel Mahamba.
In addition, they said there are people willing to advise the governor on a voluntary basis. Among them is former governor Dr Samuel Mbambo, Dr Gerson Sindano and Dr Matias Ngwangwama.
