Agriculture, Water and Land Reform Minister Calle Schlettwein said the ministry will develop boreholes in the Ohangwena region in its bid to make water accessible to the residents of the area.
During a familiarization visit of water points in the Omundaungilo constituency on Saturday, Schlettwein said the water quality at the constituency’s main boreholes is good and only need to be developed further.
“We are starting to develop the aquifer by looking into a number of factors such as how much water is available from a borehole and how it can be tapped,” said the minister.
Schlettwein said the water quality from most water points in the area is good and does not need to be purified or treated, making it fit for human consumption.
The borehole the minister visited was drilled by the line ministry in August this year from the aquifer 2 which flows underground from Angola.
The borehole is situated in Oyehonge villages and the facility is operating on solar power and currently, the facility covers up to five (5) villages: Eehwa, Okalundwena, Epinga, Onawupanya and Oyehonge.
The water level 28 meter and its 250 meters deep, the project cost N$600 000 for drilling and N$2.3 million for installation.
