Four (4) suspects were arrested on 21 August 2020 after they illegally hunted a specially protected game (rhino).
The suspects conspired and entered a private Farm to hunt rhinos, they shot and injured a female white Rhino and killed one male White Rhino. The horns were removed.
The cow managed to escape with a gunshot wound. It survived.
The suspects sold the horns without a permit and they obtained funds from such sales.
The suspects were arrested and charged with the following:
1. Contravening Section 26(3)(a)of Nature conservation Ordinance 4 of 1975 as amended by Act 3 of 2017 Hunting of specially protected game ( Rhinoceros)
2. Contravening Section 50 (1) of Nature conservation Ordinance 4 of 1975 as amended
Removal of protected species products- Rhino Horns
3. Contravening Section 4 (1)(b) of controlled wildlife products and trade Act 9 of 2008 as amended by Act 6 of 2017- Dealing in Rhino Horns
4. Contravening Section 18 (2)(a) of the Riotous Assemblies Act, Act 17 of 1956 Conspiracy to commit an offence of Illegal hunting of specially protected game ( Rhino)
5. Contravening Section 4,5 and 6 of Prevention of Organised Crime Act 29 of 2004
Nissan Qashqai vehicle, silver in Colour Registration number N8284G which was used in the commission of the offence and impounded.
Suspects on this case:
1. Dave Uatenguainja Ngumbi Namibian man, aged 35 years from Opuwo.
2. Alfred Katupao Rukee Nambian man, aged 49 years from Grootfontein.
3. Lucas Katupao Hidinwa Nambian man, aged 38 years from Grootfontein
4. Ngange Hengua Kaipi Namibian man, aged 40 years from Windhoek
The hunt is believed to have taken place between 22 July 2020 and 15 August 2020 at Unknown time at a farm in the Grootfontein District, Otjozondjupa Region.
