The 2024 Conference of the Southern African Association for Research in Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education (SAARMSTE) will be hosted at the International University of Management (IUM) in Windhoek.
The SAARMSTE 2024 conference will be face-to-face event, hosted by IUM in collaboration with Namibia University of Science and Technology, University pf Namibia, the Ministry of Education, Art and Culture, and Ministry of Higher Education Technology and Innovation.
The SAARMSTE conference will likely host about 400 delegates from around the world, representing different continents and universities, from 16 – 18 January 2024.
During a press conference at IUM Main Campus on Wednesday, the Head of the Science Education Department at Rhodes University, Professor Kenneth Mlungisi Ngcoza, said the organisation is centralised to develop young academics, and scholars who can be able to take over from those who were before them to ensure sustainable development in Africa.
“Namibians should be proud of themselves for hosting the prestigious important conference, this is a non-profit organisation and it does not make business,” he said.
The conference will be held under the theme,“Rethinking Relevant Research in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education for the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR)”.
This year, the SAARMSTE was hosted by the University of the Free State (South Africa) on 17-19 January 2023, hosting the 31st Annual Conference.
After two years of hosting the SAARMSTE conference virtually, it was presented as a hybrid conference for the first time, and in attendance were delegates from South Africa, other Southern Africa countries, America, India, Australia and Europe.
The conference’s theme was,“Intersecting Research, Policy and Practice for a Sustainable Praxis in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education: New Possibilities and Directions for the post-COVID-19 Pandemic Era”.
