Rani Group of Companies has donated 700 wheelchairs valued at N$2.5 million to all 14 regional governors at Opuwo on Tuesday. Each region received 50 wheelchairs.
The group has wholesale outlets in nine regions, and will soon add Kunene to the list with its newly established N$20 million retail store that will provide more than 70 jobs for Opuwo residents.
This is the second time the Rani Group of Companies is aiding the disabled people in the country as part of its social responsibilities. Last year the group donated 150 wheelchairs valued at N$350 000 to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) for distribution among disabled members of the public and some government officials.
Speaking at the occasion, Kunene’s regional governor Marius Sheya said the wheelchairs will be given to people who need them the most to change people’s lives. He said the fight to address the socio-economic challenges the country is facing should be a collective effort.
The governor promised that the regional leadership will create a conducive environment for groups such as Rani to invest more and plough back into the communities.
Rani Group of Companies Chief Executive Officer Ali Dharani said that all regions will be treated equally despite of not having a presence in some regions.”Currently we do business in nine regions but we plan to expand to all 14 regions in due time,” he said.
Dharani made it clear that with their sponsorship, they do not expect anything in return as it forms part of their corporate social responsibility. He also challenged other corporates to join hands in meeting the government halfway.
