Zim health minister arrested over company linked to Namibia

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested health minister Dr Obadiah Moyo over the procurement of Covid-19 material using Jaji Investments – a company registered in Namibia.

Moyo has been accused alongside his former secretary Agnes Mahomva, health acting secretary Dr Gibson Mhlanga and finance ministry permanent secretary George Guvamatanga.

Jaji, owned by Garikai Prince Mushininga, bought the test kits from China for US$300 but charged the Zimbabwean government N$66 000.

Mushininga has met President Mnangagwa at least twice, while the company’s Zimbabwe representative, Valdano Brown, is Mnangagwa’s nephew and bodyguard.

Moyo is said to have instructed Mahomva via handwritten notes to hire Jaji Investments for the supply of Covid-19 test kits.

These are the test kits which were in the news recently as having been donated to Zimbabwe by Namibia.

Zimlive reported that one consignment of the test kits supplied by Jaji was picked up from DHL’s office in Harare and delivered to NatPharm by Qubekani Muswere, a nephew of Information Technology Minister Jenfan Muswere.

ZACC spokesman John Makamure told Zimlive Friday night that Moyo has been arrested.

“Yes, he has been arrested and is in detention. That’s all I can say for now,” Makamure said.
