The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, City of Windhoek, National Housing Enterprise and Khomas Regional Council held a ground-breaking ceremony last week for a low-cost housing project to construct 1 200 houses by July 2022.
Phase 1 of the project will construct 300 low-cost houses by November 2020. The project will be carried out at Havana Proper, Havana Extension 1, Onyika number 2, Goreangab Extension 4, Greenwell Matongo, Otjomuise Extension 8 and 9 and Freedom Land A and B.
The beneficiaries of this project are residents of these informal settlements who possess title deeds of the land they occupy and they will be selected on the following criteria:
a) Creditworthiness
b) Affordability
c) Proof of ownership of an erf in the above-mentioned settlements
The residents who meet these criteria and were not registered during the first round of registration last year must approach our Department of Housing, Property Management & Human Settlement: Housing Section, 5th floor Head Office or call 290 3195/ 290 2348 for more details.
The prices of the houses range between N$91 464 and N$166 906, with a monthly repayment of between N$682 and N$1,223 over a period of 25 years. The price includes the land as well.
Owners will choose from the following prototypes:
a) City of Windhoek Basic Shelter Common Room 22 m2 which comprises of a bathroom, toilet, a common kitchen/living room with a veranda at a cost of N$91 464
b) City of Windhoek Core-1 Modular one-bedroom house 32 m2 comprising of a modular one-bedroom house with ablution facility, kitchen/living common room with a total built-up area of 32m2 with a possibility of further planned extensions. The cost is N$103 682
c) City of Windhoek Core -2 Modular two-bedroom house which entails a modular two-bedroom house, with ablution facility, kitchen/living room with a total built-up area of 45 m2 with a possibility of further planned extension. The cost is N$166 906.
