Unam, SRC at loggerheads

The University of Namibia and the student representative council is at loggerheads over the resuming of face-to-face lessons for some of the students who could not participate in online learning.

UNAM had announced that they will be resuming lessons for students who could not engage in e-learning due to different challenges, including no access to gadgets or the internet.

Some of the other students who were set to return are also those who needed to do practicals for their assessments.

UNAM spokesperson, John Haufiku told EagleFM that the u-turn on some of the students returning to campus was as a result of the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Haufiku acknowledged that this decision was in support with the Ministry of Higher Education’s position that students should not return to campuses until further notice, as a preventative measure to curb any further spread.

The university’s SRC president, Ginola Nauseb, said that the fear for the further spread is not reason enough.

He added that if secondary school and primary school learners are resuming face-to-face lessons, surely adults at the university level.
