//Karas police have released the names of the two children who died after they got lost for three days while travelling from Tses to Farm Gryholde on New Year’s Eve.
Detective chief inspector Gesaias Hegoam said the two children were among the five who got lost on 31 Dec. 2019 after they had set off on foot going to the farm that is about 40km away.
Hegoam identified the two children as identified the children as 5-year-old Lentina Kooper and 10-year-old Laurentius Tobias.
The children were in the company of 50-year-old Teresia Kooper, mother to Lentina, who was found dehydrated and exhausted three days after they had left Tses.
According to Hegoam, the family reported to the Tses police on 2 Jan. 2020 when they realised that they had not arrived at the farm.
A search involving the police, the reserve force from Keetmanshoop, and Tses village community members was initiated on 2 Jan. 2020.
Kooper was found about 30km from Tses, Hegoam said, while the other three children – Lentina, Germina Tobias, 15, and Immanuel Tobias, 13, were later found a distance away.
By that time, Lentina had already died, while the other two were weak and had to be rushed to the hospital.
The 10-year-old boy, Laurentius Tobias, was found dead Saturday morning about 20km from where the other four were found.
Hegoam said Laurentius could have realised that they had lost the way and was trying to walk back to Tses but could not make it.
“He was found near Farm Valrivier,” Hegoam said.
