A 26-year-old security guard was arrested last week in connection with a shooting incident at Outapi Town where a female colleague was shot on the leg while on duty.
Omusati police spokesperson Inspector Linekeela Shikongo confirmed the incident to Eagle FM on Sunday.
Inspector Shikongo said the female guard, Wilhelmina Ndjembela aged 36, was shot on the right thigh on Thursday with a service shotgun at the Outapi Fire House around 19h30. Both the victim and the suspect work for 6000 Security Service. The cause of the shooting is not known.
The suspect was expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges of attempted murder, contravening the Fire Arms and Ammunition Act 7 of 1996 Section 38 (l), discharging a firearm in a negligent manner causing injuries to another.
Ndjembela told Eagle FM that she was shocked. Speaking from her Oshakati State Hospital bed, Ndjembela aged 36 said the incident happened when another male was showing how to use the gun.
According to Ndjembela, the suspect grabbed the shotgun from them, saying there was no need for her to be taught how to use it.
She told Eagle FM that she did not expect the suspect to pull off the trigger. Ndjembela was rushed to Outapi hospital and later transferred to Oshakati.
She, however, said her condition was getting better.
