Deputy commissioner Moses Khairabeb
Otjozondjupa police are investigating why an Okakarara prosecutor, who was arrested for drunken driving on Saturday night, paid N$2 000 bail.
The Otjozondjupa acting police commander deputy commissioner Moses Khairabeb told Eagle FM on Sunday that the unnamed 29-year-old prosecutor was arrested at Okakarara.
Deputy commissioner Khairabeb said they were investigating why the prosecutor was made to pay N$2 000 instead of N$8 000.
The prosecutor is expected to appear in the court where he works on Monday.
The police set the new standardised bail amounts in last year to deal with any offences under the Road Transport and Traffic Act, Act No. 22 of 1999 and Regulations of 2001 as well as Act No.74 of 1977.
Head of traffic law enforcement division deputy commissioner Amalia Gawanas said at the time that there was a need for the standardised bail amount.
