NIP overwhelmed by Covid-19 cases

Health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula said the cases are coming in large numbers because of a backlog at the Namibia Institute of Pathology.
Dr Shangula said this Wednesday when he announced 52 new cases, the highest so far ever since Namibia had its first index cases in March.
“This is occasioned by the expanded targeted testing that is ongoing at the coastal areas. We ask for patience especially for those who are in the quarantine facilities and are waiting for their results and to be discharged,” Dr. Shangula said
Namibia now has 257 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
“Of the new 52 new cases, 34 are men and 18 are women. One of the newly positive patients is a one-year-old baby while the oldest person in the group is 59. None of the people has severe symptoms and is all in a stable clinical condition,” he said
All but one of the 52 cases are from Walvis Bay where targeted mass testing is being carried.
“As for the inhabitants of Walvis Bay, I wish to assure you that the government is with you. There are various measures which are being implemented especially, to cater for those who need to be placed in our health facilities,” the minister said.
