NHE signs deal to start building 1 200 houses


The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Hon Erastus Uutoni officiated at the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) contract signing ceremony with several contractors held today in Eros.

“We have signed already with the first contractors there in Katutura. On Friday I asked my brother there (Robert Kahimise), how far are we? He said I am going to find out how far we are because I wanted to start by the end of July.

“Sometimes you put pressure to other people but sometimes you don’t also understand the logistics involved, you have to cool down a little bit, you can’t just put pressure. I hope you have done those logistics. I want to see a foundation and a house.

“When you come to tell me, you tell me a lot of words, minister we have to do ABC, we have already committed money. It is there lying and we want our citizens to enjoy this money. So please start I want to see these houses,” said the minister.

According to the NHE, the contractors are expected to construct 1 200 low-cost houses in two phases, with the first 200 houses expected to be completed by end of November 2020. The eight contractors are:

“I am told the majority pf these people prefer two-bedroomed houses and I said yes that is good so that now money is there let us just start with bedrooms because that is the choice of people.

“Those who can’t afford can start with basic shelter and one-bedroom. For far too long the low-income earners have been left out in the cold because there was no product within his or her financial reach,” said the minister.

5. Valomek Civil CC
6. Prudential Investment CC
7. ETN Technical Services CC
8. Vero Group CC
