Nanso follows ‘fishrot’money trail

The Nanso is seeking clarity over a N$60 000 linked to the Fishrot scandal allegedly paid to the organisation on 29 November 2017.

The payment came from DHC Incorporated and reflects that it was for the benefit of a ‘Nanso Conference.

Nanso has since written to Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, who was the secretary-general at the time when the money was paid.

They have also written to lawyers DHC Incorporated and The Namibian newspaper also seeking clarity over the said N$60 000 payment.

These letters follow an article in The Namibian newspaper titled ‘Swapo youth bosses and Fishrot cash.’

The student organisation, under new leadership, refuted claims that Nanso benefited from the Fishrot money and asked the previous leadership, DHC to explain the N$60 000 allegedly paid to the organisation as it could not find any trace of the payment.

The organisation said they are currently engaging in internal investigations to ascertain whether there is any truth in the claims that they benefited from Fishrot money.

In the letter to Nauyoma at the time the payment was allegedly made, 2017, Nanso asked Nauyoma whether there was ever a request for sponsorship from De Klerk, Horn and Coetzee or any other intermediary or entity linked to Fishrot scandal for the 2017 Congress.

Nanso Secretary for Finance and Economic Affairs Luciano Kambala confirmed that they are investigating the payment to trace where the funds went to.

“After reading the article in the newspaper we went back to bank statements and we could not trace the N$60 000, hence we reached out to the leadership of that time to assist us.”

Kambala said there is no one else to ask about the alleged transactions to Nanso as Nauyoma was Secretary-General.

According to the report and statements in the organisation’s possession, Kambala said the organisation had over N$ 200 000 in its accounts at that time.

Kambala said the organisation wants to know who received the money and ask that person to explain why it was done with Nanso’s name.

Nauyoma said he had no knowledge of the transaction and any request for the money from DHC Incorporated.

He said it is important for the current Nanso leadership to establish any truth to the alleged transaction, some of these allegations come at a surprise.

Nauyoma said they have established a committee to investigate and assist the Nanso leadership.

He said they need to assist the current Nanso leadership to establish the activities of the 2017 congress and around it.

He will respond later Monday to Nanso’s letter. There should be a report by the congress committee  and as far he can remember there is no mention of any funding.

“We would have picked it up,” Nauyoma said. “We need to establish if this money went.”
