Erongo police said a woman aged 28 died in a shack fire Thursday morning in Kuisebmund in Walvis Bay.
The victim has been identified as Christine Langani who was staying in a backyard shack.
Inspector Ileni Shapumba, the Erongo police spokesperson, said the fire could have been caused a candle the victim was using.
The fire broke out around 05h00 and when a neighbour came out to try to put it out, it was too late.
According to Inspector Shapumba, the woman put her phone on the charger in her mother’s house around 21h00 and went back to her shack.
The mother who owns the house where the shack was, went to give the victim the phone around 01h30. At the time, the victim was still awake and the candle was alight.
Before leaving, the mother asked her daughter not to forget to put out the cattle when she went to sleep.
Inspector Shapumba said this was the fourth shack fire in the coastal within a week.
