Acting fisheries minister, Albert Kawana, has now washed his hands off of Fishcor after its employees and those of Seaflower pressured him via a letter sent on their behalf by law firm Tjombe and Elago for him to fire the company’s board for failing to get rid of the Fishrot corruption.
Kawana told Eagle FM that “according to the new law Fishcor is under the minister of public enterprises”.
But Kawana was given a directive by President Hage Geingob to investigate corruption in the fishing sector last year as well as get unemployed fishermen back to work.
In the meantime, Jooste promised to comment on the way forward with the Fishcor board today “after checking one or two facts”.
