The Windhoek mayor Fransina Kahungu has moved the mayoral office to Babylon one of Windhoek’s most impoverished informal settlement in Katutura.
Kahungu, who was elected last year, told Eagle FM that she wants to be closer to people so that she can get a view of Windhoek’s problems.
Kahungu said such an arrangement will force her to bring about much-needed reforms.
” It cannot be a political (gimmick) where you just want to get support. People will be very much disappointed if you are among them and you are not providing services. So to me, this is more of an eye-opener to allow me to look at the situation on a daily basis to be challenged and to be forced to do something,” she said.
Kauhungu whose office is at Nathaniel Maxuilili Community Centre said she would work from there throughout her term of office.
In earlier interviews, Kahungu has always been saying that her main goal is to uplift the lives of the poor.
