Groot Aub residents without water for 8 days

Windhoek Rural councillor Peninah Ita-Inga has told the regional governor of Khomas that residents of Groot-Aub have been without water for eight days.
“This time around I think the community is in dire need of water and we can not be able to wait any longer because the water container is dry. Imagine someone who does not have any means, especially access to a car, get water which is about four to five kilometres away from their houses, how will they be able to get this water?
We have a number of elderly people within our community and also those households which are led by people who have different types of disabilities. So, I am pleading that even if they will be able to provide this water today that would be of great assistance or putting the water tanks somewhere closer to the community,” she said.
A lack of resources has made it difficult for effective implementation of projects in the constituency, she said.
In Dodabis, the regional leadership approved the construction of a secondary school in 2014, but this has gathered dust.
“About two weeks ago the ministry of education allocated a budget but we need to negotiate with the farm owner in the area to avail land for the school. Most of the school-going children are coming from nearby farms. It is difficult to send the children to a school which means a child can only go to school until grade 7. How do we address poverty if we can’t create a conducive environment for a Namibian child to go to school?” she said.
A contractor has been roped in for the construction of a primary school and is on sight but the councillor said he hasn’t started anything yet.
The project is envisaged to be done with by September this year.
“That is the reality on the ground,” she added.
