Groot Aub gets water back

Windhoek Rural constituency councillor Penina Inga-Ita said the City of Windhoek rehabilitated boreholes at the Groot Aub settlement after the residents had to endure 8 days without any water.

Inga-Ita told Eagle FM this morning that the boreholes were rehabilitated and the water flow has improved as well.

“In total, it gives us 37 cubic meters per hour whilst we previously only produced 22 m3/h,” Inga-Ita said.

As a result of the pandemic, the City of Windhoek supplemented Groot Aub’s water supply from the boreholes with 7 water tanks.

These tanks were scheduled for a refill every Friday but this was not done due to the lack of available water trucks.

The City of Windhoek missed a scheduled water refill in Groot Aub which caused the settlement to go 8 days without water.

This comes after the only water truck the municipality had, broke down and needed repairs.

City of Windhoek spokesperson Harold Akwenye explained:

“When we started putting up and filling the tanks we had support from the private sector and ministry of defence that availed their water trucks. It was easy to service all tanks in Windhoek and around on a regular basis.”
