‘Grade 12 failure rate in towns caused by unregulated entertainment’

Maximalliant Katjimune

Popular Democratic Movement Youth League National spokesperson Maximalliant Katjimune said the poor performance of Grade 12 pupils in the urban areas is due to their easy access to entertainment activities which are not properly regulated.
He mentioned that this mostly occurs in Windhoek, Swakopmund, Keetmanshoop, Rehoboth and Mariental areas. He went on to say these scholars are frequently seen at the night clubs.
He demanded that the education directorates from those areas look into this matter and find a solution to it.
The PDMYL further wants higher education institutions to scrap the registration fees for students who qualify for funding from the Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) and hence, will work with the newly established Students’ Union of Namibia (SUN) to talk to these establishments to make this a reality.
