Justice minister Yvonne Dausab said the government is willing to investigate the several claims and cases raised by petitioners during a march against racism, police brutality and gender-based violence.
Dausab received the petition on behalf of the cabinet, during the silent demonstration in Windhoek today.
She said that the current injustice that the nation has seen does require a collective effort and that as a government they are willing to investigate these matters.
“I receive the petition with the commitment that we will look at what you are asking for,” Dausab said adding that she will take the petition back to Cabinet so that they can provide a collective response.
The petitioners have also written to the City of Windhoek for the removal of the Das Kriegsdenkmal Monument at Zoo Park and the Curt von Francois Statues at the City of Windhoek head offices. They were informed that a meeting will be arranged to discuss the matter.
Amongst other concerns, the partitioners also said that Namibia failed to adequately deal with the heritage of race and racism.
