The education ministry has announced a four-phase back to school plan for the 2020 academic year.
The executive director of the education ministry Sanet Steenkamp has announced a four-phase plan for the reopening of schools and resumption of face-to-face teaching and learning.
The first phase will start with the grades 11 and 12 resuming face-to-face teaching and learning on 03 June 2020 until 18 December 2020.
In the second phase, face-to-face teaching and learning will resume for pre-primary as well as grades 1 to 3 on 22 June 2020 until 18 December 2020.
The third phases will see grades 7 to 9 return to school to resume face-to-face teaching and learning on 06 July 2020 to 18 December 2020.
In phases four, grades 4 to 6, 8 and 10 will resume face-to-face teaching and learning on 20 July 2020 to 18 December 2020.
Mid-term break for teachers is scheduled from 22 to 29 May 2020. Teachers will return to schools on 01 June 2020.
Steenkamp further said the education ministry will make all the resources at its disposal available to ensure that the safety of the learners is prioritised and ensured.
