President Hage Geingob says the executive remains committed to respecting and upholding the fundamental rights and freedoms of the people as enshrined in the Constitution.
Geingob said this in Windhoek on Wednesday when he officially opened the legal year.
According to Geingob, the Government and all organs of the State shall do all that is
necessary to help the Judiciary to achieve and protect its independence, dignity and effectiveness.
In addition, he said the Government will ensure that the Judiciary is strengthened not only in terms of its structural independence but also in making sure that it operates in an environment where it is not subjected to an undue public or institutional pressure.
The president urged the judiciary not be unnecessarily and overly sensitive towards justified comments or criticism of its decisions.
He, however, said he fears that reckless allegations aimed at destroying the integrity of the Judiciary may lead to a situation where members of the public could lose faith.
