Grades Erongo Grade 11 and 12 learners are expected to start classes on 24 June 2020, 13 days after the rest of the regions.
President Hage Geingob placed Erongo Region under lockdown on 8 June 2020 after 7 people had tested positive for COVID-19.
Speaking to Eagle FM on Monday morning Erongo Regional Education Director Erenfriede Stephanus said the region still faces the challenge of dividing the classes into two groups.
Stephanus also said they need two days to deal with these arrangements.
However, Stephanus is confident that the schools are ready for the learners to return and are prepared as per the regulations from the health ministry.
After consultations, Stephanus said the senior secondary learners are prepared to have extra classes in preparation for the upcoming examinations.
The learners have gone back to e-learning classes and the schools are also distributing materials to those who do not have the means to access online programmes.
Stephanus said now there is a growing fear to have meetings with groups of parents or learners after the 4 boys were swabbed when they presented flu-like symptoms.
The results of the 4 boys were negative.
Stephanus said 76% of learners in the Omaruru circuit and 90% of the learners in Swakopmund returned to class on 3 June 2020.
She did, however, mention that 48 learners who commute between Walvis Bay and Swakop were sent back due to the lockdown that was imposed on Walvis Bay at the time.
According to the Education Ministry’s plan to resume face-to-face learning and teaching in four phases, the pre-primary and grade 1 to 3 learners are set to head back to school 22 June 2020 and the rest in July.
