City Police closed their headquarters known as the PA De Wet Building for 6 hours after a police officer tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
Health Minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula yesterday announced that a 38-year-old police officer from Windhoek tested positive for COVID-19.
He was a contact of a confirmed case and was tested on the 23rd July 2020. He had no COVID-19 related symptoms.
City of Windhoek spokesperson Harold Akwenye confirmed to Eagle FM that the officer was stationed in both the control room and the public transport division.
Akwenye also said there is another suspected case who is awaiting results.
All the officers who were in contact with the positive case were sent home for days.
According to a communique sent to the staff members, Chief Abraham Kanime yesterday said the officer was stationed at the public transport division where he inspected taxis.
“The good thing is that we take precautionary measures (like) social distancing, properly wear masks covering nose and mouth, sanitising and disinfecting offices and cars before changing drivers,” Kanime said.
Kanime encouraged the officers to drink hot water with lemon regularly, avoid outing and congested areas to remain safe.
