Councillor for the Tobias Hainyeko constituency, Christopher Likuwa, has said that false information was put in the State of the Region Address which was delivered this week by governor Laura McLeod-Katjirua.
This is after the governor said that progress had been made in connection toilets in the area.
“Honestly none of those 65 toilets have been built. That is truly speaking. We are still waiting for the toilets of the Social Security Commission and NamWater. We are waiting for those toilets to be built. They gave her a report so that she can come to address the state but honestly those who listen to her saying that the toilets have been built, the question will come to the councillor and say where are the toilets that the governor has mentioned. That is why I rose to say that those toilets that she has reported on we have not received them yet,” he said.
Pressed on who presented this report to the governor, Likuwa said, “The CEO is the one who reported that the toilets had been built in Tobias Hainyeko.”
He said the governor will give back the report “saying that the councillor has denied this” and that she will “probably” do a sight visit “to see where those toilets have been built.
Meanwhile, the governor admitted this week that not all OMAs submitted their reports to be part of the state of the region address.
Eagle FM thus pressed councillors whether the address was entirely a true reflection of what was on the ground.
Most of the councillors accepted the address as reflecting the true picture of the region, in spite of that.
On what will be done to the OMAs that failed to submit the reports, the governor said, “There is nothing that I can do because I can not force them. You can not take a horse to a drinking place and force it to drink.”
She said what she normally does is to write letters every beginning of the year to urge them to make submissions.
She said some have not submitted any reports since she started.
