Public enterprises minister Leon Jooste says his ministry will enter into performance agreements with each board member with key performance indicators aligned to approved, feasible business plans.
“If KPIs are not met, the board can be removed,” Jooste said when he responded to questions on Twitter after his comment about the newly appointed Meatco chief executive officer Mwilima Mushokobanji.
Mushokobanji, who is currently heading the Namibia National Farmers’ Union, was appointed as the new CEO on Monday.
He will start duty on 1 Feb. 2020.
A new board will be appointed soon and will be key in steering Meatco from a strategic point of view during this complicated period.
Jooste told Eagle FM on Wednesday that he was extremely worried about the entire livestock sector with the massive de-stocking that took place in 2019 and the ability to restock the national herd of small and large livestock.
The minister also said that it would take years to reach the pre-drought national stock levels and will continue to put enormous pressure on producers and Meatco as a result.
“He will need the best possible team of executives to support him. I recommend that efforts are made to retain institutional memory.
A new Board will be appointed soon and will be key in steering Meatco from a strategic point of view during this complicated period,” the minister said.
When asked on twitter how he would ensure that the board would perform, Jooste said: “We will enter into performance agreements with each Board member with KPIs aligned to approved, feasible business plans.”
According to Jooste, the board will then put pressure on the CEO to perform.
