Opposition members walk out of parliament
About nine members of the opposition walked out of parliament protesting being recalled to the August House via text messages allegedly by the Prime Minister.
PDM President McHenry Venaani said only the President had authority to recall them to parliament and not the PM.
However the major reason for discontent was that despite being told there was an urgent matter to be discussed, the deputy speaker did not was immediately delve into the urgency.
Although the opposition members could not put it on record what the urgency was, they insinuated that the ruling party wanted to change Article 47 of the constitution which is currently being hotly debated.
The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has expressed that National Assembly candidates holding publiv office have to resign.
Some of the members who walked out are PDM’s President McHenry Venaani, Tangeni Iijambo, RDP’s Mike Kavekotora and UPM’s Jan Van Wyk.
