NamPower managing director, Samson Haulofu has said that the recently launched grid will positively stimulate market growth by enabling added accessibility between Namibia and the World Wide Web.
After having successfully delivered on its mandate of securing electricity supply since its inception, NamPower continues to be a catalyst for development in Namibia also through advanced telecommunications, he said.
“The Grid Online will also enable Namibian start-up companies to enter the telecommunications markets without having to construct expensive nation-wide backbone networks. I would like to clarify that the Grid Online is not a NamPower subsidiary, it is only a name for a product offering that avails telecommunications infrastructure sharing of NamPower versatile fiber optic network to other parties.”
“As part of the new strategy, NamPower aims to deliver sustainable security of supply and a least –cost tariff path that will supports economic growth and maintain the business financial sustainability. Also as part of the new strategy and business plan under the theme ‘Driving Organisational and Operational Excellence,’ NamPower envisions to coordinate the development of new products and services to the benefit of existing and future customers under business development and innovation functions,” he said.
Haulofu also said that NamPower recently finalised the drafting of the new five-year corporate strategy and business plan for the years 2019-2023 guided by its vision and mission statements.
“The strategy is aligned to policy direction and the National Integrated Resources Plan and takes into consideration trends in the electricity market and changes in customer behaviour. The business development and innovation functions will leverage NamPower’s existing experience and skill sets in the development of new service offerings.”
“Furthermore, the establishments of this functions will also crat new opportunities for employees to develop new skills and capabilities to grow into new positions and responsibilities. Thus NamPower is very excited for what future has instore for the Grid Online for NamPower and Namibia at large,” said the managing director.
