Fishrot6 to remain in custody

High Court Judge Kobus Miller ruled on Friday that there was no urgency in the matter brought before him by the Fishrot6 who sought to be to have their warrants of execution set aside.

The Fishrot6 – former ministers Bernhard Esau and Sacky Shanghala, former Investec manager James Hatuikulipi and Ricardo Gustavo, Tamson who Esau’s son-in-law as well as James’cousin, and Pius Mwatelulo – were asking the court to consider the matter as an urgency.

They are facing fraud, tax evasion and money laundering charges emanating.

The accused in the case where N$150m was allegedly paid as bribes in exchange for fishing quotas wanted to be freed on the basis that the warrants were not executed properly.

Judge Kobus, however, said there was no urgency in the manner the six had approached the court. He, therefore, ruled against the six and struck the case off the roll.

The six will have to pay the costs.
