The Angolan government has ordered the preventive seizure of Isabel dos Santos’ accounts with four banks after proving that her companies had benefitted from state contracts.
Isabel, one of Africa’s richest women, is the former Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos’ eldest daughter.
She owns 42,5% in the Bank Banco BIC, the holding company of BankBIC, that has a licence to operate in Namibia.
According to Angolan media, the Angolan Attorney General’s Office through the National Asset Recovery Service filed a preliminary injunction in the Luanda Provincial Court against Isabel, her husband Sindika Dokolo and manager Mário Filipe Leite da Silva.
The Civil and Administrative Room of the Provincial Court of Luanda ordered the injunction after proving that Isabel, her husband and manager had benefitted from state-owned companies.
The Attorney General’s Office says the state lost more than US$1 billion.
The affected accounts are with BFA, BIC, BA, Banco Econômico and belong to BIC, ZAP Media, UNITEL, Cimangola II, Ciminvest, Condis, Continent and Sobiba.
On Monday, Isabel called for calm among her workers saying that the truth will come out one day.
