Johnny Ryno Diergaardt (36) who was found guilty of butchering his girlfriend 27 times with knives in a Khomasdal flat, has been slapped with a 35-year jail term.
Five years were suspended on condition that he does not commit the same crime in that period.
The Judgement was handed down by High Court Judge Nate Ndauendapo today in the Windhoek High Court.
Three psychological evaluations were done on the convict and he was found to have been in a negative state of mind when he committed the crime, although he knew what he was doing.
In his August ruling this year, Judge Ndauendapo found Diergaardt guilty of murder committed with a direct intention to kill his lover who has been identified in court papers as Tiffany Lewin (22) in Khomasdal on 3 March 2014.
The court has also heard that the convict had expressed remorse by writing a letter of apology to the family of the deceased and that he has been in holding cells for five years.
These factors were considered in the formulation of his sentence.
