Sixteen of the 17 Swapo Party candidates for National Assembly seats have resigned from their day jobs.
This decision comes after the political parties were informed by the Electoral Commission of Namibia that no members of the National Council, local authority or those employed in public offices, may be nominated for National Assembly.
City of Windhoek Councillor Francina Kahungu, who was at number 90 on the list, is the one party member who decided to remove herself from the NA list.
Those who have resigned from their current employments include National Council chairperson Margareth Mensah-Williams, National Youth Service head Mandela Kapere and Rundu town councilmember Verna Sinimbo.
