4 Swakopmund high school pupils in quarantine

The health ministry said Monday that four students from the Swakopmund Secondary School are in quarantine at the Namib High School after they showed flu-like symptoms.

In a statement dated 8 June 2020 and from the executive director, the ministry said the four students went to the Swakopmund State Hospital for treatment early Monday.

Health ministry Ben Nangombe confirmed to Eagle FM Monday that the statement was from his office.

The health workers decided to test the students of Covid-19 out of caution and then sent them for quarantine while they wait for the results Tuesday.

According to the statement, the students were tested as part of the active case search in line with the health ministry’s expanded targeted testing, which dictates that persons who present to health facilities with symptoms consistent with the case definition for COVID-19, shall be tested.

“We understand that leaners and the families of the learners attending this school will be concerned at this point. As an immediate step, the imperative of caution has dictated that no one will be permitted to leave the school until the results are known,” the statement said.

This comes after President Hage Geingob locked down Erongo Region following the increase of the number of cases in the past few days.

Walvis Bay area was under a one-week lockdown that was supposed to have ended Monday midnight.
