The Old Mutual Foundation Chair & Desk (C&D) Initiative received 838 applications from schools around the country, seeking to get their chairs and desks repaired or get new ones, the Foundation revealed this week.
The Group Marketing Executive, Mignon du Preez, explained that the initiative is designed to improve the learning environment in government schools across the 14 regions.
Furthermore, as the OM Foundation commitment to fostering quality education and community development.
Due to the overwhelming demand for repairs and new furniture, Du Preez saidthe Foundation has committed to start with assisting two schools each in three regions over a span of three years, starting from this year up until 2026.
The Foundation will start with the initiative in Zambezi Region, repairing chairs and desks at Silumbi Combined School and supplying new chairs and desks to the Mavuluma Secondary School.
In Omaheke Region, it will repair chairs and desks at Gunichas Roman Catholic Primary School, while supplying new chairs and desks for the C. Ngatjizeko Primary School as well as Drimiopsis Primary School, withsponsorship by Futurenergy Consultancy CC.
Lastly, in the Kunene Region the repair of chairs and desks will happen at Okapara Mobile Unit (Ondao School) with the supply of new chairs and desks to the Elias Amxab Combined School.
In addition to the overwhelming responses from schools, the Foundation received 81 applications from various vendors, both companies and individuals to fix the broken desks and chairs across the country.
The selected vendors will be contacted based on geographic location to submit quotations for repairs and supply works by this week, 22 September 2023.
