Volleyball Cup gets cash injection
Last week the local volleyball scene was boosted after Bank Windhoek injected a sponsorship of N$80 000 for the Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF) Cup.
During the launch of the season, NVF president, Joel Matheus said “The NVF Cup is the most prestigious event on the calendar of Namibian volleyball. It is prestige because it is played only by the champions. It is only played by the top two men’s and women teams from our five regional associations. For a team to participate in this competition, it has to work hard from February to July to be on the top of the log in their region.”
Meanwhile, Head of Corporate Communication and Social Investment at Bank Windhoek, Riaan van Rooyen, said “It is a privilege and a honour to be associated with the 2015 Bank Windhoek NVF Cup. We believe that volleyball has entered and exciting phase, hence the sponsorship of N$80 000. For Bank Windhoek it is important that volleyball be played in the regions and that sports in general should be inclusive of the whole country.”
The NVF Cup is the sole tournament that qualifies teams for the Zone 6 Senior Club Championship and the only event that will create an opportunity for any team in Namibia to participate in the Central African Volleyball Senior Club Championship.
The cup will be played over three weekends, with the first starting in Rundu between 14 – 16 August 2015 at UNAM Rundu Campus hall, Dr. Romanus Kampungu School hall and Kavango Trade fair Center.
