Bank Windhoek national fistball league in final phase

The Bank Windhoek national fistball championship will move into its decisive phase on Saturday at the SKW fistball fields.

The teams of the National A and National B leagues will jostle for positions on the logs, as the teams square up for the play-off games in September. Saturday’s games will determine the first qualifiers for the championship final. The team first on the log after the weekend automatically qualifies for the final, while the second and third placed teams will play in a semi-final in September, to determine the second finalist.

Cohen FC 1 are currently in first place on the Bank Windhoek National A league log and will want to defend this position on Saturday. They will face some though competition, however, as they are set to play defending champions SKW 1 who are in second place with the same number of points. They will also face third place SKW 2.

SKW 1 is a force to be especially reckoned with. They will field a full strength side with national team players Gernot Helm in attack and Stephan Zimny in defence. Allrounder and former Swiss first league player, Stefan Grögl,i is also available for selection and will give the team some much needed experience in both attack and defence. Cohen FC 1 on the other hand can rely on national team Spiker, Tristan Minz, who has shown good form in the national teams practice sessions.

The game between the two evenly poised opponents is set for 12h00 and promises to be a humdinger of a match, which will determine who finishes in first place on the league log after the day’s matches. Cohen FC 2 and SFC 1 do not have a chance to end in the top three positions.

Cohen FC 3 is well poised to retain first position in the Bank Windhoek National B League. They are seven points clear of second placed SFC 2 and virtually assured of a top three finish. The national cup winners will meet DTS, SFC 2 and third placed Cohen FC 4 in what promises to be an action packed day of games. Defending champions SKW 3 meanwhile will be out to do some damage control. They had a wayward season thus far and are last on the Bank Windhoek National B league log. Saturday will be their last chance to show their talent and salvage some pride.

The games will start at 8h30 at the SKW fistball fields in Olympia with the last games ending at 18h00. A prize giving will be held at the Cohen FC clubhouse from 19h00 where the player of the day will be rewarded.
