A  10 year-old-girl was sexually assaulted by her mother’s tenant at her residence in Grysblock, Katutura last week. The child, who lives with her mother, was touched on her private parts, Nampol told The Villager.
According to NamPol Public Relations Inspector, Slogan Matheus, the 10 year-old girl and the suspect’s sister were sleeping in the rented outside room when the incident happened.
“The house is owned by the victim’s mother and she is friends with the daughter of her mother’s tenant who rents a room at the back of the house. The kids, who are about the sage age, were watching TV in the back room and then fell asleep,” said Inspector Slogan.
When the suspect entered his mother’s room, Matheus said, he found the victim and his sister fast asleep. “He went after the girl from the main house and started to fondle her. He penetrated her vagina with his fingers and she woke up and started crying. Her friend also woke up and the suspect fled from the room,” he said.
The victim then went to the main house where she informed another victim of her ordeal who then called her mother.
“The matter was then taken to the police, the suspect was not arrested. My office at the moment does not know why the suspect has not been arrested. When I inquired about this particular case with my colleagues at the Woman and Child Protection Unit, there wasn’t enough information available and they promised to get back to me,” said Inspector Matheus.
More information pertaining to the arrest of the suspect was still not available at the time of going to press.
