The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) opened a temporary fish shop in Mariental on Saturday.
The shop, which is a brain child of The Ministry of Fisheries & Marine Resources (MFMR) will provide a new alternative to the residents of the town and will emphasize on providing high-quality fish products.
Minister of MFMR, Bernhard Esau said, ‘‘Not so long ago, all the fish that was caught in our waters was enjoyed only by people overseas, but Government has made it a priority for our own people to enjoy it as well.’’
A more permanent shop will begin construction by March of next year and will be an addition to the 14 shops already set up in 10 regions nationwide.
‘‘This temporary fish shop marks a stepping stone for the Trust to set up a full fledge fish shop in this Mariental in the very near future.’’ The minister said.
The Trust’s motto is bringing fish to the nation and was established by Cabinet decision in 2001 under the MFMR.
