Previous attendees and family members of the after-school Resource Centre (RC) met last week in Katutura to celebrate their 5th anniversary.
The Resource Centre is an after-school program that meets next to Jacob Marengo Secondary School in Katutura.
Rachel Schmidt, International Women’s Association Namibia (IWAN) representative notes that the centre which was started in 2008 by the Namibian Women’s Association (NAWA) provides early childhood development support for primary education and guidance in life skills for children aged between 4 and 14.
RC is now a co-operative project of NAWA, IWAN, Jakob Marengo Secondary School and SCORE which is a non profit organisation specialising in community development through recreation and sport.
More organisations which are part of the project include the children’s movement Group of Jan Mohr Secondary School and the Windhoek International School, Katutura Community Arts Centre and the parents committee of the Resource Centre.
Each organisation comes to the RC at least once a week and assists the children with homework, maths, reading, drama, sports, art and gardening.
They further organise various activities such as annual clothing sale which was held last month for fundraising purposes.
